Shawn Salmon is an Assistant Professor in the Music Department at Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois), where he directs jazz studies and studio guitar programs. He teaches courses in jazz theory, improvisation, history, and ensemble performance.

Dr. Salmon's research and practice focus on jazz performance, composition, and pedagogy. He actively leads the SXU Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Guitar Ensemble while maintaining a professional performance career in Chicago's jazz scene.
His scholarly contributions include publications in DownBeat Magazine and commissioned big band arrangements with Really Good Music, Inc. He has presented at major conferences including the 2017 JEN Conference and the College Music Society's National Conference.
