Shawn Brixey is a tenured Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), holding affiliations in the Department of Computer Science (College of Engineering) and the Cinema/Kinetic Imaging Programs (VCUarts). He previously served as Dean of VCUarts and Dean of York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD). Brixey holds an MIT Media Lab background and is a renowned artist-researcher at the intersection of art, technology, and culture.
Education: Graduate of MIT’s Media Laboratory.
Research & Practice: Focuses on digital media, experimental arts, and interdisciplinary creativity. He co-founded the DXARTS doctoral program (University of Washington) and pioneered digital media programs at UC Berkeley and VCU. His work spans internationally acclaimed exhibitions at venues like Documenta, the MIT Museum, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.
