Shauna Mottiar

Shauna Mottiar is an Associate Professor of Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Director of the Centre for Civil Society. She holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She concurrently serves as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research focuses on civil society, social protest, and social movements, with a particular emphasis on South Africa. She leads a National Research Foundation (NRF)-funded study on civil society in South Africa and teaches a Master’s course titled 'Civil Society & Development'. Her recent co-edited publication explores protest dynamics in South Africa.
