Monique Marks

Monique Marks is a Professor of Sociology in the Community Development Programme at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Research Associate at the Centre of Criminology, University of Cape Town. Her academic work focuses on youth social movements, ethnographic research methods, and police-related studies. She has authored three notable books, including Young Warriors: Youth Identity, Politics and Violence in South Africa, Transforming the Robocops: Changing Police in South Africa, and an edited volume on police occupational culture.

Her research integrates critical perspectives on security governance, police organizational dynamics, and the intersection of youth identity with political violence. These themes reflect her commitment to sociological inquiry addressing socio-political challenges in South Africa and beyond.
