Dr. Shaun Chan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). He leads the Advanced Combustion Diagnostics Laboratory and holds a 2023 CSIRO International Hydrogen Research Program Mid-Career Fellowship. His research focuses on optical/laser diagnostics for high-pressure combustion systems, hydrogen integration into energy systems, and fire safety innovations.
Chan earned his PhD (2011) and Bachelor of Engineering (2006) from the University of Adelaide. He has secured $22M in external funding, including $2.49M as principal investigator. His career spans roles from Research Associate (2011-2013) to Senior Lecturer (2019-2023) at UNSW.
Research interests include hydrogen combustion diagnostics, soot formation, alternative fuels, and fire evacuation modeling.
