Dr. Sharyn Gaskin serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Public Health within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. She leads the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Unit and directs the Adelaide Exposure Science and Health laboratory (www.ua.edu.au/aesh).
Her research expertise centers on Occupational & Environmental Health with emphasis on industry partnerships and defense-related applied research in occupational and community health. Her work explores pathways and impacts of environmental and occupational hazards on human health, developing interventions to control and prevent exposure to hazards. Her research methodology uniquely combines laboratory analytical methods with real-world field-based study design.
Dr. Gaskin's research group specializes in public health, exposure science, and environmental/medical epidemiology, working closely with government and industry stakeholders across healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, emergency services and mining sectors. Current research initiatives focus on preventing occupational lung disease through education materials development and creating online learning platforms to educate workers about skin health in occupational settings.
She actively supervises Masters and PhD students, with current projects addressing critical occupational health issues including silicosis prevention and occupational skin disease reduction.
