Sharon Marquart is a Professor at Gustavus Adolphus College with a joint appointment in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program, where she serves as Director. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from the University of Akron. Her interdisciplinary work bridges French/Francophone studies, feminist theory, and Holocaust scholarship.
Her research examines ethical/political commitment in post-WWII French-speaking cultures, exploring how literature, film, and photography resist systemic oppression. Current projects analyze humanitarian engagement across Francophone regions including Haïti, Morocco, and Sénégal. Publications focus on trauma, resistance narratives, and gender, notably through Holocaust testimonies and the works of Charlotte Delbo.
