Shaoyan Qi is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese at the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at Columbia University. She has been teaching at Columbia since 2004, with prior experience at Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Princeton, and Middlebury Summer School.
- Education: EdD in Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University; MA in Education from Villanova University; MA in Linguistic and Socio-cultural Anthropology from SUNY Binghamton.
Her research focuses on Instructed Second Language Acquisition, Chinese Language Pedagogy, and Task-Based Language Teaching. She has developed innovative curricula and authored the award-winning Discover China textbook series.
