Shannon E. Weaver

Shannon E. Weaver is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, specializing in Family Studies with a concentration in Gender.

Her research focuses on family interaction, theory, rituals, gender, long-term impacts of pandemics on well-being, and stepfamily dynamics. Recent work includes analyzing the pandemic's effects on family routines and mental health, as well as exploring love theories and marriage financial implications.

Weaver has authored a textbook, Introduction to Individual and Family Development, and contributed to multiple peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations. Her work frequently addresses feminist perspectives in family studies, including critiques of neoliberal academia and gender inequality.

She has advised numerous graduate students and collaborated on grants investigating parenting during crises and campus sexual violence policies. Weaver’s lab focuses on emotion regulation in families during crises and the economic dimensions of family rituals.

Professional activities include organizing symposiums on pandemic mental health and feminist frameworks for addressing sexual violence. She maintains an active presence in academic conferences and interdisciplinary collaborations.
