Shamsul Alam

Shamsul Alam is a Lecturer in Social Policy and Community Development at London Metropolitan University's School of Social Sciences and Professions. With a hybrid background in economics and development studies, he brings over 12 years of experience working with disabled communities in the UK. His research examines intersections of disability, ethnicity, and social policy through both grassroots and academic lenses.

His research focuses on:

• Disability rights in ethnic minority communities
• Social inclusion strategies
• Community-based participatory research
• Policy development for sensory impairments

Previously, Alam served as a researcher at the London School of Economics investigating social inclusion policies for visually impaired individuals from minority backgrounds, and worked as a Strategy and Commissioning Officer developing services for people with sensory impairments.
