Dr. Shailendra Joshi is the Kalsi Associate Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Director of Graduate Admissions at the University of Houston. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2002) and has held academic positions at institutions including the National University of Singapore and Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on mechanics of advanced materials, computational/experimental mechanics, and multi-scale failure processes. He has led initiatives such as the NUS Computational Modeling and Optimization Special Interest Group and served on multiple academic committees.
Dr. Joshi has received awards including the Bill D. Cook Faculty Fellowship (2018-2023) and National University of Singapore teaching commendations. He has authored over 100 publications, with recent work exploring magnesium alloy dynamics, void mechanics in HCP crystals, and nanotwinned material behavior. His research integrates experimental and computational approaches to predict material behavior under extreme conditions.
