Seth P Bates is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Aviation and Technology at San José State University. He also serves as Volunteer Department Chair for Aviation. His expertise spans Engineering Materials Applications, Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, and Advanced Manufacturing Methods. Dr. Bates holds a PhD from the University of Northern Iowa (1981), an MA in Industrial Arts from SJSU (1978), a BA in Philosophy and Biology from UC San Diego (1976), and a HS diploma from The Putney School (1966).
His research focuses on materials analysis and manufacturing innovation. He has industry experience as an advanced manufacturing engineer at Applied Materials and Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp.
