Sergio Lemus is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University. He also serves as Cultural Program Coordinator and Distinguished Lecture Series Coordinator. His research focuses on cultural anthropology, migration, race, and labor dynamics among Mexican migrant communities. Dr. Lemus holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015).
His current research explores Mexican yard workers' experiences in transborder Chicago, analyzing how race, class, gender, and color hierarchies intersect with economic shifts. He also examines health navigation strategies among working-class Latinos at the U.S.-Mexico border. His work bridges ethnography with critical theories of labor, migration, and bio/necropolitics.
Key publications include Los Yarderos: Mexican Yard Workers in Transborder Chicago (2025), and studies on medical tourism at the border and labor hierarchies among Mexican workers. He teaches courses on cultural anthropology, border studies, and ethnographic methods. Dr. Lemus is actively mentoring graduate students and accepting new advisees with aligned research interests.
