Sergio Carrera

Dr. Sergio Carrera holds an Associate Professor/Senior Researcher position at the Department of European Law, Faculty of Law, Maastricht University (Netherlands). He concurrently serves as an Honorary Industry Professor at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law. His primary affiliation is with the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels, where he coordinates the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Research Programme since 2002.

Dr. Carrera’s research focuses on EU Justice and Home Affairs Law, with special emphasis on migration policies, citizenship rights, and border management. He has authored/co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and edited volumes, and frequently advises EU institutions including the European Parliament and Fundamental Rights Agency.

Notable Work: A 2020 report analyzing cross-border data sharing mechanisms in criminal proceedings, highlighting legal frameworks and practical challenges in EU member states.
