About
Sebastian Rausch is a tenured Professor at the Freie Universität Berlin since 2018, leading the group “Adaptive immunity to parasite infections” since 2012. His work focuses on host immune responses to parasitic infections, particularly Giardia muris, intestinal nematodes, and co-infection effects. He investigates immune response heterogeneity influenced by age, microbiome, and genetics. Previously, he held a postdoctoral position at the Humboldt-University of Berlin (2008–2012) and completed his PhD in Molecular Parasitology there (2004–2008).
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Parasitology, Humboldt-University of Berlin (2004–2008)
- Postdoctoral Researcher in Parasite Immunology, Humboldt-University of Berlin (2008–2012)
Research Interests:
- Analysis of host-parasite interactions in Giardia muris infections
- Effects of co-infections on host immunity
- Biophysical principles of parasite-host dynamics
- Role of microbiome and genetic background in immune responses
Grants and Collaborations: Active contributor to the SPP 2332 PoP initiative, specifically Project 13. Collaborates with institutions like the Centre for Infection Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin.
Labs/Teams: Heads the Adaptive immunity to parasite infections research group and participates in cross-disciplinary projects on parasite biophysics.
