Christoph G. Grevelding

Christoph G. Grevelding is a Full Professor of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at Justus Liebig University Giessen since 2004. He holds leadership roles, including Deputy Chairman of the LOEWE Center DRUID (2020–present) and Chairman of Section-2, “Infection and Immunity,” at the International Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL, 2022–present). His career includes a Habilitation in Genetics (1999), Associate Professorship at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (1999–2004), and postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institute.

Education: Biology diploma from the University of Cologne (1988), Ph.D. from the Max Planck Institute for Breeding Research (1991), and Habilitation in Genetics (1999). Research focuses on Schistosoma mansoni, exploring male-induced sexual maturation, drug targets, and parasite-host interactions. Notable projects include investigating mechanical forces in reproduction (Project 10 of SPP 2332) and links between schistosome infection and carcinogenesis.

Research emphasizes transcriptomics, kinases, and genomic elements (e.g., Z-chromosome dosage, W satellite elements) to understand schistosome biology and evolution. His lab develops antiparasitics and studies immune responses to schistosome eggs.
