Sean T. Murphy

Sean T. Murphy is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Southern Utah University, specializing in 19th & 20th century European philosophy, aesthetics, and ethics. He completed his PhD at Indiana University Bloomington (2021) and holds an MA from University College Dublin.

Research Interests include the German Romantic and Expressionist traditions, modernist literature, and intersections between ethics, moral psychology, and self-understanding. His work often engages with philosophers like Herder, Schiller, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Woolf, and Adorno.

• Current Project: A book on 'aesthetic vanity'—the experience of perceiving artworks as personally relevant.
• Organizational Roles: Assistant Director of the North American Division of the Schopenhauer-Gesellschaft; co-organizer of the Online Schopenhauer Working Group.
