Scott M. Strachan

Scott M. Strachan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. He serves as Co-Director of the Vertically Integrated Project for Sustainable Development (VIP4SD), which won international awards for student engagement in sustainability. He is also the Education for Sustainable Development lead at the Centre for Sustainable Development and Co-Convenor of the ESD Topic Support Network for Learning for Sustainability Scotland.

• Education: B.Eng. (Hons.) and Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde.

His research focuses on energy access in developing countries through off-grid solar PV systems and pedagogical innovation in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). He co-founded impactful outreach projects like the Gambia Solar Project and Tamil Nadu Solar Project. His work integrates asset management, intelligent systems, and data mining for power systems. Recent projects include 5G/6G portable networks for rural connectivity and curriculum reforms for engineering education.

His publications emphasize activity learning, student-led research, and curriculum integration for sustainability. Awards include the 2019 Green Gown Award, 2020 AASHE Award, and 2014 African Challenge Scotland Impact Award. He actively organizes academic events like the Engineering Academics Network Annual Congress and advises Istanbul Technical University.
