About
Scott Lyons is a Research Associate Professor and Director of the Animal Imaging Core Facilities at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL). He holds membership in the CSHL Cancer Center and focuses on advancing preclinical in vivo imaging techniques to study cancer biology. His work emphasizes non-invasive, dynamic imaging modalities to evaluate tumor development and therapeutic responses, reducing animal use and improving experimental data quality.
Lyons earned a Ph.D. in Medical Science from the University of Edinburgh (1999) and a B.S. in Genetics from the University of St. Andrews (1994). He completed postdoctoral training at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, followed by roles at Xenogen Corporation and CRUK Cambridge Institute before joining CSHL in 2014.
His research integrates imaging innovations with cancer biology, including development of triple-reporter systems for multi-scale tumor tracking and CRISPR/Cas-based PET reporter engineering. Key interests include metastasis imaging, immunotherapy response monitoring, and metabolic stress sensing via PET technologies.
Lyons has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to book chapters on molecular imaging, and actively participates in national/international conferences. His lab collaborates widely, providing imaging resources and expertise to CSHL researchers while advancing translational imaging tools for preclinical oncology research.
