About
Jon Preall is a Research Associate Professor and Head of Genomics Technology Development at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), affiliated with the CSHL Cancer Center. He leads the Preall Laboratory, focusing on developing single-cell genomics technologies to study cancer progression, immune surveillance, and rare cell types. His roles include Director of the Single-Cell Biology Shared Resource and membership in the Cellular Communication in Cancer program.
Preall holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University (2009) and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Cornell University (2003). His postdoctoral training at CSHL (2009-2014) under Gregory Hannon laid the foundation for his research in RNA interference and piRNA pathways.
His research integrates cutting-edge genomics to dissect cellular heterogeneity in tumors and immune systems. Key areas include pancreatic cancer fibroblast dynamics, tumor microenvironment interactions, and immune repertoire analysis. His lab develops scalable single-cell technologies for large-scale patient cohort studies.
Notable contributions include identifying ROR2's role in pancreatic cancer plasticity, discovering SPDEF-driven mucinous tumor subtypes, and advancing organoid models for triple-negative breast cancer. Over 40 publications span high-impact journals like Cancer Discovery, Nature, and Cell Genomics.
