Scott Jeppesen

Dr. Scott Jeppesen (Assistant Professor, Music, Montana State University Billings - College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences) is an accomplished musician, composer, and educator dedicated to innovative music pedagogy. Since joining MSUB in 2017, he has revolutionized curriculum approaches by emphasizing creation-based learning through composing, improvisation, and musicological analysis rather than traditional memorization.

• Founded the Rocky Mountain Jazz Collective (2019) as composer/arranger/soloist
• Created Yellowjacket Recording Studio for student success
• Developed new Commercial Music degree program (launched Fall 2021)

Recognized for his 2022 Cox Fellowship Award, Jeppesen's teaching philosophy combines subject mastery with engaging, accessible methods and cutting-edge media tools. His initiatives have expanded departmental offerings while enhancing regional collaboration and visibility through historic Babcock Theatre performances.
