Scott Gratson is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Temple University’s Lew Klein College of Media and Communication. He serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Chair of Undergraduate Studies, overseeing programs in Philadelphia, Tokyo, and Kyoto. His roles include creating Temple’s NYC Study Away and NYC Pride academic programs, as well as advising over 400 students.
- Education: PhD in Communication (University of Denver), PhD in Art History (Temple University), and advanced studies at Oxford University (Certification in Higher Education, Advanced Diploma in Local History).
His research focuses on LGBTQ+ identity studies, art history (specializing in 15th-16th century cadaver tombs), British history, and urban/rhetorical analysis. He is also deeply involved in LGBTQ+ advocacy, serving on boards for the New-York Historical Society, Hetrick-Martin Institute, and Point Foundation.
Recipient of major awards including Temple’s Stuaffer Award for service and Volunteer of the Year from NYC Pride. Active in academic governance, he has hosted national debate conferences and serves on Oxford’s Board of Studies for Continuing Education.
