Scott Finnie, PhD, is a Senior Professor and Program Director in the Department of History and Africana Studies at Eastern Washington University (EWU). He holds a PhD in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University (2000), a master’s in American History (1992) from EWU, and a bachelor’s in English from Gonzaga (1975). He has been a faculty member at EWU since 1992, serving as the department’s senior faculty member and director of Africana Studies.
His expertise spans cultural impact, American and African American history, leadership studies, U.S. race relations, civil rights, affirmative action, and cultural diversity training. He has presented globally on these topics in cities like Addis Ababa, Cairo, London, and Washington, D.C., and has delivered over 50 presentations in the past 15 years. He has also received over 20 awards for teaching, leadership, civil rights, and mentoring.
As the owner of Engaging Team Concepts, a diversity consultancy, he provides training on cultural competency, intercultural communication, and servant leadership to organizations such as Spokane Police, Spokane County Juvenile Courts, and regional universities. He recently co-authored Unlocking the Master Narrative: History and Intercultural Communication and serves as a commissioner for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
