About
Scott Chapman is Professor of Mathematics and Scholar in Residence at Sam Houston State University's Department of Mathematics and Statistics. His research explores fundamental structures in commutative algebra and number theory with particular focus on factorization properties.
Research Focus: Chapman investigates factorization invariants, numerical semigroups, and arithmetical properties of integral domains. His recent work examines Betti elements in monoids and atomicity conditions in Puiseux monoids.
Educational Leadership: Chapman directs undergraduate research initiatives including the SHSU Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Mathematics program. He has edited special journal issues on commutative algebra applications.
