Scott Ballard is an Academic Professor of Film and Television at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Savannah, GA (since 2021). Previously, he held professorial roles at Portland Community College (2013–2021), Northwest Film Center (2008–2021), Portland State University (2017–2018), and Seattle Film Institute (2013–2015). He earned an M.F.A. in Film from Boston University and a B.A. in English from Western Washington University.
His professional work spans narrative, documentary, and corporate filmmaking. As a cinematographer, he has contributed to nine feature films, three documentaries, 45+ short films, and numerous commercials. Notable awards include Best Director for North & Nowhere, Best Cinematography for Death on a Rock, and Best Feature for A Standing Still across over 20 international film festivals. His clients include Intel, Portland State University, and Disability Rights Oregon.
Beyond academia, Ballard founded the Great Notion Filmmaker’s Conference and serves as a festival judge (Red Rock, George Fox University, Filmed by Bike). He has volunteered as a media producer for events like PDX Pop Now and FreeForm Portland Radio.
