Dr. Saskia P. Ruth-Lovell holds dual roles as an Associate at the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies (Leibniz Association) and an Assistant Professor at Radboud University Nijmegen’s Department of Political Science. Her research focuses on political accountability, populism, clientelism, and the quality of democratic representation in Latin America. She has conducted expert surveys across 18 Latin American countries to assess policy positioning and linkage mechanisms.
Her current research explores clientelism in Mexico, comparative populism, and democratic measurability. She has authored/co-authored studies on party institutionalization, electoral politics, and democracy education. Notably, she received the Harrison Prize 2018 from the Political Studies Association.
Ruth-Lovell has led projects like DEMOGAMES (2019–2022), developing game-based tools for democracy education, and contributed to the PREPPS expert survey initiative. She has taught courses on Latin American democracy at the University of Zurich and frequently presents at conferences like the ECPR General Conference and PEGNet Conference.
