About
Prof. Sascha Gentes is a Professor at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), holding Germany's only professorship dedicated to the dismantling of conventional and nuclear structures. He heads the TMB institute jointly with two other professors, driving the establishment of a nationally and internationally leading scientific and technical competence team for "Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities" at KIT.
His research spans nuclear decommissioning and environmentally friendly demolition of conventional buildings, with emphasis on developing practice-oriented technologies like self-sufficient climbing manipulators for remote decontamination. He investigates cooperative project management and transparent processes to reduce time and costs through early authority involvement, while pioneering recycling-friendly demolition methods, mechanized waste separation, and automated hazard mitigation for contaminants like asbestos. His work aims to standardize demolition procedures while prioritizing environmental sustainability and personnel safety.
Prof. Gentes collaborates extensively with experts in mechanical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, and geography. Key partners include the International Atomic Energy Agency, energy suppliers, and leading construction machinery manufacturers, reflecting the industrial and global relevance of his research.
