About
Sarah Young serves as Associate Professor and First-Year Coordinator at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Architecture and Design, where she has taught since 2012. A UL Lafayette alumna, she instructs first-year design studios and the Survey of Design course, introducing students across disciplines to design's transformative potential through foundational curriculum development.
Her research bridges academic and professional practice, investigating design pedagogy innovations, impostor phenomenon manifestations in architecture students, and writing's role in the design process. As partner at emerymcclure architecture, she contributes to award-winning built works and speculative competitions including the Venice Architecture Biennale exhibition (2021).
Recent publications reveal three interconnected research threads: writing as cognitive tool in design education, psychological barriers in architecture students, and resilient housing typologies. These studies demonstrate practical applications in studio teaching while addressing regional climate challenges through architectural innovation.
Her contributions have earned significant recognition:
- Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award (2022)
- Eminent Faculty Award (2022)
- AIA National Associates Award (2019)
- Multiple American Residential Design Awards (2017-2021)
- AIA Louisiana Associates Award (2018)
In her First-Year Coordinator role, Young shapes foundational design education while balancing professional practice. Her emerymcclure architecture firm received international exposure through Venice Biennale features, though research grant details remain unspecified in available records.
