Professor Sarah Ashwin is a Professor of Comparative Employment Relations and Head of the Department of Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She holds a first-class degree in History from Oxford, an MSc in Russian Government and Politics from LSE, and a PhD in Sociology from Warwick. Her research focuses on industrial relations, international labour standards, corporate social responsibility, gender and work, and the governance of global supply chains in the garment industry. She has published widely in top journals such as the American Journal of Sociology and Gender & Society, and her work has been recognized with prestigious awards including the James G. Scoville Award (2021).
Key research themes include the stalled gender revolution in Russia, the implications of pensioner employment on gendered well-being, and the role of transnational industrial relations agreements in improving labour standards. She serves on the editorial board of Gender & Society and leads international projects on global supply chain governance. Her book Adapting to Russia's New Labour Market: Gender and Employment Behaviour (2013) explores gender dynamics in post-Soviet economic transformation.
