Sarah A. Friel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Speech Therapy from the Central School of Speech & Drama (University of London) and a MA in Philosophy & Psychology of Language from Birkbeck College, University of London. Her work focuses on pediatric speech-language pathology, particularly in early childhood communication disorders, autism, and sensory processing challenges. She collaborates with occupational therapists to develop interprofessional interventions for children with complex needs.
Dr. Friel serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Child Language Teaching and Therapy, an interdisciplinary publication addressing children’s speech, language, and communication needs. Her research explores narrative language development, ideational praxis in children, and service-learning models like the LEGO® Club program. She frequently presents at conferences such as ASHA and AOTA.
