Sara Protasi

Sara Protasi is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Her research focuses on moral psychology, ethics, emotions in ethical contexts, history of philosophy, and aesthetics. She holds a B.A. from Università di Roma La Sapienza (2002), a PhD from Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna (2007), and a PhD from Yale University (2014). She has been a visiting scholar at institutions including the University of Michigan, University of Chicago, and Nanyang Technological University. A co-founder of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP), her work challenges traditional views on envy, love, and beauty. Her book The Philosophy of Envy (Cambridge, 2021) proposes a novel taxonomy of envy and its ethical implications. Protasi engages in public philosophy through podcasts, lectures, and media interviews, exploring topics like envy in pandemic contexts and beauty standards. She teaches courses on ancient Greek philosophy and pedagogical methodologies.

Her interdisciplinary research bridges philosophy with psychology, political theory, and social justice. Recent work examines envy in transitional justice and political contexts, as well as the intersection of aesthetics with body politics. She actively promotes inclusive philosophical practices through teaching and co-founding MAP chapters.
