Sara Garber

Sara Garber serves as a Research Associate at the Chair of Statistics and Data Science within the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Augsburg, working under Prof. Dr. Yarema Okhrin since October 2023. Her role focuses on advancing statistical methodologies with practical applications in healthcare systems and social sciences.

She completed both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Business Administration at the University of Augsburg, with specialized coursework in Machine Learning, Data Science, and Operations Research. During her studies, she gained hands-on research experience as a research assistant at the Chairs of Health Care Operations/Health Information Management (Prof. Dr. Jens Brunner) and Statistics and Data Science, complemented by work at the University Hospital Augsburg.

Garber's research integrates Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to address critical challenges in Digital Health, particularly health care operations and policy design. Her work examines ethical dimensions of medical triage for vulnerable populations and systemic barriers to gender equality in academic careers, reflecting a commitment to socially impactful data science.

Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary rigor, with her 2024 study analyzing mentoring programs for women scientists in dvb forum and her 2023 simulation research in Die Anaesthesiologie exploring mortality outcomes under triage protocols for people with disabilities—both highlighting data-driven approaches to complex societal issues.

She actively contributes to the German Region of the International Biometric Society, the European Working Group on Operational Research Applied to Health Services, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Research, fostering collaborations that bridge statistical theory with health service delivery.
