Sandy F. Chang is an Assistant Professor in Modern Asian History at the University of Florida. Her research focuses on migration, gender, and sexuality in Southeast Asia and the British Empire, with specialties in global China, inter-Asian connections, modern border regimes, and comparative colonialisms.
Education: PhD in History from the University of Texas at Austin.
Research Highlights: Her book project Across the South Seas: Gender, Intimacy, and Chinese Migration to British Malaya, 1877-1940 examines the role of Chinese women’s labor networks in sustaining regional economies. Her article Intimate Itinerancy received major awards in 2021 and 2022.
