Yuri Doolan is an Associate Professor of History and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University, and inaugural Chair of the Interdepartmental Program in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies. Their research focuses on anti-Asian racism, US militarism, and transpacific histories of intimacy and migration.
Education: PhD (Northwestern University, 2019), MA (Northwestern University), BA (The Ohio State University).
Research interests include critical adoption studies, Cold War militarism, and the intersections of empire and gender. Their award-winning book The First Amerasians: Mixed Race Koreans from Camptowns to America (Oxford UP, 2024) examines U.S. Cold War adoption practices. Current projects explore U.S. military prostitution networks in Cold War Asia and their links to anti-Asian violence.
Honors include a 2025 Kluge Fellowship and an Honorable Mention for the IEHS First Book Award (2025).
