Samuel da Rocha Lopes

Samuel da Rocha Lopes is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova IMS) and a Senior Economist at the European Banking Authority (EBA-UE, Paris). He coordinates EU projects and represents the EBA in key institutions, including the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Scientific Research Group, the European Commission Insolvency Regimes Discussion Group, and Basel III implementation initiatives. In 2024, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of EBA-Staff Papers. His research focuses on finance and banking, with publications in top-tier journals like the Review of Financial Studies and Review of Accounting Studies.

Prior roles include Economist at the European Central Bank (ECB) and Senior Economist-Consultant at Banco de Portugal, where he specialized in Financial Supervision, Research, and Risk Management. He has taught at the University of York (UK) and Aarhus University (Denmark), and contributed to executive training via World Bank projects.

He reviews for prestigious journals such as the Journal of Banking & Finance and holds a PhD in Finance from ISCTE (Lisbon).
