Samuel R. Galloway

Samuel R. Galloway is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Purchase College, State University of New York (SUNY). He holds a BA from Purchase College, MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. His work bridges political theory, queer studies, and critical theory, focusing on democracy, sovereignty, and solidarity in contemporary and canonical thought. Current research includes a book project, Cruising Politics, analyzing 21st-century political movements like Black Lives Matter through queer critical theory. He also co-develops an edited volume on Lauren Berlant’s legacy in political theory.

Teaching emphasizes intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and class in courses like Political Theory I/II, Politics and the Media, and Race, Gender, and the Law. His research extends to despair’s political responses and the legacy of queer thinkers like Berlant. Office hours are Thursdays 2:30–4:00 PM in Social Science Building 1033.

Personal interests include activism, interdisciplinary collaborations (Gender Studies/Global Black Studies), and creative pursuits like guitar, cycling, and birdwatching. His work blends theoretical rigor with engaged pedagogy, challenging normative frameworks in political discourse.
