Sammantha Graves

Sammantha Graves is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research and teaching focus on British literature from the 18th and 19th centuries, with emphasis on gender studies, popular culture, and the development of the novel.

• Education: Ph.D. (2007) and M.A. (2001) in English Literature from the University of South Carolina.

Research Interests include Victorian periodical publication, sensation and detective fiction, and transatlantic literary connections between British and American writers such as Mary Elizabeth Braddon and Anna Katherine Green. She explores how genre conventions and gender dynamics shaped literary markets during these periods.

Recently Taught Courses include English Literature (Engl 288), Themes in British Writing (Engl 283), Rhetoric and Composition (Engl 102), and Critical Reading and Composition (Engl 101). Her pedagogy integrates historical contexts and critical analysis of literary forms.
