Sam Overstreet is a Professor of English and Chair of the Division of Languages & Literature at Maryville College. His academic focus is on medieval English literature, particularly William Langland’s Piers Plowman. He contributes to the Piers Plowman Electronic Archive by editing a manuscript of the C version of the poem. Overstreet holds a B.A. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
His teaching includes courses on Chaucer (in Middle English), the History of the English Language, Shakespeare, Advanced Rhetoric and Grammar, British literature surveys, and composition. He previously taught in China (1986-1988).
Research interests include medieval manuscripts, digital editing, and historical linguistics. He actively collaborates on digital humanities projects to preserve and analyze literary texts.
