Sally Preece is a Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the University of Bolton, affiliated with the School of Psychology and Education. She has been with the university for five years, serving as module leader for academic and language skills modules across health, business, and law foundation programmes. Her work focuses on supporting multilingual students’ language needs.
Research Interests: Sally’s doctoral thesis examines assessor attitudes toward non-standard variations of academic English in engineering master’s theses. Her broader interests include ESAP, English as an academic lingua franca, and language policy in higher education. She recently completed an R2 assessment as part of her Education Doctorate.
Experience: Prior to academia, Sally worked as a Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She has taught EAP modules in China, including teacher training programs, and contributes to the English Pre-Sessional and International Foundation Programmes at Bolton.
Awards: She holds the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Her 2019 conference paper at the TIRI Conference highlighted embedding EAP into subject-specific teaching.
Professional Activities: Active in EAP research and curriculum development, with a focus on bridging language support and disciplinary knowledge in engineering and business contexts.
