Ryan Buchanan is an Associate Professor in Hepatology at the University of Southampton, co-leading the Southampton centre of inclusion health hepatology (SCINCH). His research focuses on improving outcomes for marginalized populations with liver disease through applied health research, mixed methods, network analysis, and natural experiments. He collaborates with the Wessex NIHR ARC, Southampton BRC, and UK researchers/patients to address health inequities in liver disease care.
His teaching role includes leading the Year 3 undergraduate medicine module, emphasizing clinical reasoning skills development. Buchanan has supervised PhD students Charlotte Cook (DM Primary Care) and Alexander Murray Smith (PhD Primary Care).
