Professor Andrew Cook is a Professorial Fellow in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) at the University of Southampton. He holds roles at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), contributing to HTA, Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME), Public Health Research (PHR), and Health Services and Delivery Research (HD&DR) programmes. As Associate Director at the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), he oversees non-cancer clinical trials. Previously, he directed the Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre and was Vice-Chair of NICE's Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee until 2021.
His research focuses on pragmatic clinical trials, trial methodology, and guidelines. Current projects include studies on alcohol-related liver disease, palliative care, and antibiotic treatments. He has been awarded an NIHR Pre-Doctoral Fellowship (2020). His external roles include membership in the Society for Clinical Trials, editorial positions at Trials journal, and involvement in international research initiatives like the European Guidelines on Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery.
