Ruth Brittin is a Professor of Music Education and Chair of the Department of Music Education at the University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music. She has been at Pacific since 1997, previously serving as Associate Professor and Chair of Music Education at Syracuse University (1989–1997). Her roles include teaching undergraduate and graduate music methods courses, supervising student teachers, and advising music education majors.
Education: PhD in Education (Florida State University, 1989), MME and BME (Texas Tech University, 1985 and 1983).
Research interests focus on music education pedagogy, teacher training, and applied music research. She actively publishes in journals such as the International Journal of Music Education: Research and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and serves as editor and editorial board member for multiple music education publications.
Award-winning educator, she also composes music for band, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Professional roles include membership on the Executive Council of the Society for Research in Music Education and as USA Representative for the International Society for Music Education’s Research Commission.
