About
Dr. Ruth Bowness is a Medical Research Council University Research Fellow and Reader in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath. Her research employs mathematical modeling to study infectious disease progression within the body, using differential equations and individual-based models to simulate infection dynamics and treatment strategies.
Current projects include tuberculosis infection mapping using lung scans, antibiotic resistance modeling, and SARS-CoV-2 infection simulation. She holds an honorary lectureship at University of St Andrews and is a member of the UK Young Academy.
Key Research Areas:
- Tuberculosis immunology and treatment optimization
- Antibiotic resistance evolution within-host
- Multiscale modeling from cellular to population levels
- SARS-CoV-2 immune response dynamics
Funding: Medical Research Council, Academy of Medical Sciences, and EPSRC grants supporting tuberculosis and COVID-19 modeling research.
