Dr. Ruth Anne Reese serves as Professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary where she holds the Beeson Chair of Biblical Studies and chairs the New Testament Department. She joined Asbury Theological Seminary in 2000 and remains an active faculty member.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. from Biola University, 1991
- Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, 1996
Dr. Reese's research focuses on biblical interpretation with particular expertise in the General Epistles. Her scholarly interests encompass hermeneutics, wealth and poverty in the Bible, theological interpretation of Scripture, and narrative approaches to biblical texts. She places high value on teaching excellence and has participated in and led numerous pedagogy workshops through the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion.
Her publications reveal a consistent scholarly trajectory focused on New Testament exegesis, particularly the Catholic Epistles, demonstrating expertise in literary criticism and hermeneutical approaches to biblical texts.
Dr. Reese serves on the board of the Institute for Biblical Research and is actively involved at Apostle's Anglican Church in Lexington, KY, where she teaches adult discipleship, preaches occasionally, and serves on the mission/vision team.
