David R. Bauer

Dr. David R. Bauer serves as Dean of the School of Biblical Interpretation and the Ralph W. Beeson Professor of Inductive Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, where he has been a faculty member since 1984.

His academic credentials include:

• M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, 1980
• Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, 1985
• Postdoctoral studies as Visiting Scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary, 1989

Bauer specializes in Hermeneutics and New Testament exegesis, with concentrated expertise in the Gospel of Matthew, Luke-Acts, Hebrews, and General Epistles. His scholarly contributions emphasize practical biblical interpretation methods, exemplified by his authoritative work Inductive Bible Study: A Comprehensive Guide to the Practice of Hermeneutics (2011), alongside significant publications including The Gospel of the Son of God: An Introduction to Matthew (2019) and The Essential Guide to Biblical Resources for Ministry (2023).
