Russell Sabella is a Professor and Program Coordinator in the Department of Leadership, Counseling, and Human Development at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, an M.Ed. in School Counseling, and a B.S. in Psychology. Dr. Sabella specializes in solution-focused brief counseling, comprehensive school counseling programs, and addressing cyberbullying and digital safety issues.
His research interests include applying solution-focused techniques to parent conferences, leadership program development, and classroom interventions. He has authored/co-authored over a dozen books, including Solution-Focused School Counseling: The Missing Manual (2020) and School Counselor Side Hustle (2019). His workshops, such as the Technology Boot Camp for Counselors, have trained thousands nationwide.
Dr. Sabella served as President of the American School Counselor Association (2003–2004) and the Florida School Counselor Association (2013–2014). He has received awards including FGCU's Teaching and Service Excellence Awards and the Florida School Counselor Association's Lifetime Achievement Award. His work emphasizes technology integration in counseling and fostering resilience in educational settings.
He teaches courses like Introduction to School Counseling, Research & Program Evaluation, and Leadership in Counseling. His publications span over three decades, addressing topics from cyberbullying prevention to post-pandemic student resilience. Dr. Sabella's contributions bridge practical counseling methods with modern technological challenges in education.
