Dr Rudolf Messner is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Management within the Faculty of Business & Law at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His research focuses on food systems, food security, and sustainable agriculture, with a particular emphasis on systemic challenges in supply chains, food waste reduction, and climate adaptation. He holds a PhD from QUT and is affiliated with the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy.
Dr Messner’s work addresses critical issues such as food system shocks, producer agency in climate resilience, and the socio-economic dimensions of food insecurity. He has contributed to high-impact projects including the 'Addressing Food Waste and Loss' initiative and the 'Food System Shocks' research program. His findings have been published in journals like Agriculture and Human Values and Journal of Rural Studies.
He currently serves as an Associate Supervisor for PhD candidates and actively engages with policy through submissions to government reviews on food industry regulations and sustainability. His professional memberships include the National Environmental Law Association and the International Rural Sociology Association.
