Ruby Reed-Berendt

Ruby Reed-Berendt is a part-time PhD student and Online Postgraduate Tutor in Law at the University of Edinburgh, serving as Deputy Director of the Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and the Law and member of the Centre for Bioethics, Self and Society.

Her education includes:

• Bachelor of Laws in Law and French Law (First Class Honours) from University College London
• Master of Laws in Medical Law and Ethics (Distinction) from the University of Edinburgh
• Diploma in French Law (Distinction) from Aix-Marseille Université

Her research centers on Medical Law and Bioethics with specialized focus on Mental Capacity Law, Mental Health Law, Reproductive Law, and Critical Legal Theory. Her doctoral thesis "On power and empowerment: an intersectional analysis of mental capacity law in England and Wales" employs intersectional frameworks to critique legal structures. She contributes to projects examining healthcare governance (Ukraine/UK), organ donation legislation in devolved UK systems, and ethnicity-based COVID-19 outcomes in healthcare workers through the UK-REACH study.

Ruby delivers online postgraduate instruction in Health Medical Law and Ethics, guest lectures on related courses, and supervises LLB/LLM dissertations while serving on the Mason Institute's Executive Committee.
