Ruby Guyot

Ruby Guyot is a doctoral researcher at the Department of History, University of Tübingen, affiliated with the Modern History Institute. Her work interrogates the intersection of tourism, emotions, and cultural history in global contexts.

Education:

• Bachelor of Arts in Geschichte, Französisch, and Creative Writing from Linfield College (2015–2019)
• Master of Arts in Global History from Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2019–2023)

Research Focus:

• History of tourism between the Caribbean and Mediterranean (late 19th to mid-20th centuries)
• Emotional outcomes in tourism development (pleasure, boredom, anger)
• Gender and sexuality in historical tourism narratives

Scientific Awards:

• Walter Irving Young Award for Outstanding History Student and Best Senior Thesis (2019)

Publications: Her two recent articles address emotionalized remembrance in Berlin and gendered representations in Cuban tourism guidebooks, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to cultural and gender studies.

Teaching: She leads the English-language course Feeling Historically: An Introduction to the History of Emotions at the University of Tübingen during Summer Semester 2024, held in Hegelbau (Room 201).
