Roy Kasten

Roy Kasten is a Lecturer in the College Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis, where he has taught since receiving his MA in English and American Literature from the same institution in 1989. He has also served as a tutor at the Writing Center since its establishment and teaches in the Department of English. His expertise spans contemporary fiction, Latin American literature and politics, and American Culture Studies.

His research and teaching focus on the intersection of civic responsibility and scientific discourse, as exemplified in his course Citizen Scientist, which trains students to engage with evidence-based arguments on issues like climate change, public health, and social justice. Kasten is a Senior Writer at the Riverfront Times and a former contributing editor to No Depression magazine. His writing has appeared in the Oxford American and the De Capo Press Best Music Writing of 2004.
